Nautical Nails

Since doing this manicure, whenever I look down at my nails, I think, "ahoy, matey." And then I laugh at myself for being such a nerd.

We've been doing a ton of nautical coverage in our magazines, and while I'm kind of over the trend, I figured I should at least try it once.

I've seen some really cute manicures featuring miniature anchors, but because I'm just not that into it, I didn't want to invest that much time or energy. I settled for a compromise: nautical blue stripes with a red anchor.

The base for this mani, of course, is OPI Funny Bunny. After three coats of the white, I used a striping brush to add horizontal stripes with OPI Swimsuit ... Nailed It.

The anchor was done with an old, old polish, Sally Hansen Hollywood Scarlet. I'd forgotten I had it, but it was the perfect red for this.

Now that I've done it ... I'm definitely over all things nautical. Bring on spring blushes and soft hues, because red, white and blue stripes are just not my cup of tea.
